ALDI, come on down
Senator Tammy Tyrrell, Independent Senator for Tasmania, is doubling down on calls for ALDI to come to Tasmania after the release of the ACCC Supermarket Inquiry.
“Over and over the ACCC makes one thing clear: ALDI is crucial to keeping prices down at Woolies and Coles. Tassie is suffering because the two major supermarkets dominate and we don’t have substantial competition like ALDI.”
Whilst Woolworths and Coles insist regional areas are benefiting from ALDI competition because of pricing strategies, the ACCC says the major supermarkets would price more competitively if there are a greater number of closely located ALDI stores.*
“Tasmanians deserve better grocery competition and cheaper grocery prices. It’s time we get what every other state has and ALDI comes across the Bass Strait.”
Almost 2000 Tasmanians have signed Tammy’s petition to bring ALDI to Tasmania.
