Stop the government shutting down family day care centres!

Tasmanian child day care centres are at risk from a decision by the regulator to penalise small, owner operated child care centres.

Without our owner operated Family Day Care centres, Tasmania cannot help parents find suitable early learning child care centres for their pre-schoolers. In the past 12 months, we’ve lost 10 family day care centres, affecting 100 families and 70 children.

Why are they closing? The state regulator currently does not like how childcare centres such as Abracadabra in Spreyton or Addisons in Latrobe are run. They don’t like having two day care centres run at the same premise. That’s two educators looking after 7 children each, separately, within the same building.

Both of these centres have exemplary records. Parents who send their children here have been pleading with the regulator to reverse their decision.

They have agreed to extend the licences of these businesses until February 2025.

What we can do is put pressure on the Tasmanian Education Department to reverse the decision around family day care and allow small, owner operated centres to flourish and give our pre-school kids the opportunity to get the best early education and care they deserve. And to allow parents to remain in the workforce.

We’re in a child care shortage crisis! Help us get Tasmania back on track.

Save our childcare services from unnecessary bureaucratic barriers!
