Supermarkets Inquiry

Supermarket prices are out of control, and we feel it at the hip pocket every time we get to the checkout.

It’s been more than a decade since Australia’s supermarket industry has been held to account. But the Senate has established the Senate Select Committee on Supermarket Prices, and I’ll be representing Tasmanians on it.

The committee is tasked with finding a way forward that’s fair for everyone – customers, farmers and everyone in between – and making sure everyday people aren’t just propping up record billion-dollar profits for the supermarkets.

Over 50 per cent of Tasmanian’s can’t afford to put food on the table. Some are having to take out a loan just to feed their family.

Australia’s economy is the 13th largest in the world and we produce enough food for more than 3 times our population.

There must be a way to make sure people aren’t starving because the supermarkets are ripping them off.

I don’t have all the answers right now.

I want to hear from you about your experience with supermarkets.
