Labor’s Housing Fund initially promised around 600 homes for Tasmania out of 30,000, but they were never guaranteed, funded, or sufficient. That’s where my efforts came in, resulting in Labor’s commitment to allocate 1,200 homes for Tasmania. However, I needed the Greens’ support to make it a reality. While they were advocating for more homes on the mainland, my focus is on Tasmanians. If every home goes where it’s needed most, Tasmania needed 4 percent, not robbing other states of their needs. Without this guarantee, other states could have received more than their fair share. I got once-in-a-generation investment in Tasmania’s affordable housing, and the Greens’ were opposing to seal the deal. With your word we reminded your green senators in Tasmania that they represent you.
We finally got a deal! Our advocacy and your unwavering support have paid off! At the start of August 2023, the legislation I’ve been passionately fighting for was successfully voted on and passed.
